The motherboard I brought doesn’t have an IDE port on it. My (old) DVD drive is IDE. And windows freaked out after booting to a completely different set of hardware and now needs an install repair. Damnit.

Why remove the IDE port? Just because its slow and useless, and SATA is superior in every way means we have to get rid of it now? Throwing away old technology just because something new and better has appeared is so unkind and heartless. What do you mean thats what I just did with my whole PC? NO, YOUR FACE IS THE REAL HYPOCRITE, YOU SHUT UP!

Costs less to not include ide. I just made that sata jump with my last pc.

I would recommend installing a clean version of Windows otherwise you are going to have constant errors.

Maybe because it was superseded over ten years ago?

Bruh, DVD drives are like $15. Just get a SATA one. Or don't use a DVD drive. I use mine maybe once a year.

Buy an IDE PCI card and keep the legacy flame alive. I have some AGP graphics cards and PS/2 accessories for you too, if you’d like. Hell, I’ll even throw in my P4 CPU, it has Hyper Threading don’t ya know.

most motherboards started dropping IDE ports about 10 years ago.

you can buy a usb to ide off of amazon for almost nothing. http://www.amazon.com/Generic-SATA-5…

i have one like that for the rare times a need ide, it’s also sata and even powers ide laptop drives.

i also use a startech usb to ide/sata powered case.

...IDE is still a thing?

Wait...optical drives are still a thing?

And all the optical free cried out when the internet died, “How will I watch these?!?”

Buy one from an American manufacturer. They prefer to use legacy units like mile and gallon , so I’m sure they prefer to use legacy ports as well.

You still have an optical drive?!

Might be out luck. Even this Gigabyte board which bizarrely has not one but two legacy PCI slots (on a four slot board) doesn’t have IDE (it does have headers for serial and parallel ports though):

Dude, you are tackling a pretty serious project there. Motherboards are not plug-and-play. Windows will need a fresh install.

Kinda hard to use a win 7 install DVD without an optical drive. Before you say ‘Bootable USB!’, you still need to use the DVD at least once to make one of those.
